What happened: The goalkeeper finalized the updated agreement on Monday to remain with the Eastern Conference club.

Why it matters: The transaction ensures continuity behind the starting keeper for the remainder of the 2026 MLS regular season. Maintaining reliable depth in net protects the roster against potential injuries down the stretch.

By the numbers: Romero has primarily served as a reserve this year, conceding one goal across 90 minutes in a single appearance for NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro action.

What to watch: The reserve will remain available off the bench as New York City FC continues its summer schedule.
