What happened: Portland dismissed Braiden Bell only hours after naming him the club's new TV play-by-play broadcaster. The move followed the discovery of racist tweets from Bell's past as a teenager.

Why it matters: The abrupt reversal leaves the Trail Blazers searching again for a TV play-by-play voice less than three weeks before the opener. Portland is set to begin the 2026-27 regular season against Phoenix on Oct. 21.

What to watch: Watch for Portland to name an interim or permanent replacement before preseason broadcasts fully ramp up. Any additional club statement would clarify how quickly that search moves.
