What happened: Washington confirmed Laremy Tunsil will undergo surgery, with his recovery timeline to be evaluated afterward. Detroit brought in a backup quarterback to replace Teddy Bridgewater.

Why it matters: Washington must rework its blind-side protection before the 2026 season. Luther Burden III's absence costs Chicago valuable preseason preparation time.

By the numbers: Tunsil has started all 139 of his NFL appearances and earned five Pro Bowl selections. His two-year extension is worth $60.2 million.

What to watch: Tunsil's post-surgery timeline and Burden's return to practice are the next key markers.
