What happened: Joel Kiviranta reached the NHL without being drafted. He broke through with a Game 7 performance during a Western Conference Final run.

Why it matters: Undrafted contributors remain central to roster construction under a tight salary cap. A Game 7 breakthrough on that stage continues to define his NHL identity.

What to watch: The focus shifts to how the next wave of undrafted forwards earns postseason trust in 2026-27.
