What happened: CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported Friday night that Corey Simms' knee injury will end his sophomore season. Simms played in USC's first four games and made the first three starts of his career before sitting out last week's 41-27 loss to Oregon.

Why it matters: The loss removes one of quarterback Jayden Maiava's regular targets as USC heads into its Washington matchup at 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Big Ten play. The receiver room could be thinner immediately if Trent Mosley remains sidelined after being listed doubtful Friday.

By the numbers: Simms posted 12 receptions for 178 yards and one touchdown in four appearances, ranking fourth on USC in catches. His best game came against Rutgers, where he had four catches for 72 yards and scored.

What to watch: Watch how USC redistributes Simms' snaps and targets against Washington this weekend. Mosley's availability is the other immediate variable for the rotation.
