What happened: Doncic had 4 steals and 2 drawn charges after the first quarter, on top of 16 points. Jarred Vanderbilt called them "game-changing plays, especially from one of our leaders, being able to step in front and take a charge. It gets the whole team going.

Why it matters: Charges and steals are possessions Doncic takes away without needing a shot, and Vanderbilt credited them with lifting the team. Vanderbilt, a defensive specialist, was speaking about a teammate's work on his own end of the floor.

What to watch: Doncic's defensive activity will show whether the steals and charges carry over beyond this game.
