What happened: The Washington Wizards secured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft after winning the lottery on Sunday. Ian Rapoport linked the win to a broader D.C. sports resurgence, noting the Washington Commanders will host the 2027 NFL Draft on the National Mall.

Why it matters: The top pick provides the Wizards with a cornerstone prospect to lead their rebuild following a league-worst season. For the Commanders, hosting the 2027 draft marks a major milestone for the new ownership group and the franchise's return to the District's spotlight.

What to watch: The Wizards will make their selection on June 23 in Brooklyn. The NFL is set to release its 2026 regular-season schedule this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
