What happened: The reigning Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year became the third player to lead the league in blocks in three straight seasons since the stat was first tracked in 1973-74. He joins Dikembe Mutombo and Marcus Camby on that list as San Antonio turns toward the 2026-27 season.

Why it matters: Three straight block crowns add another benchmark for Wembanyama's rise after San Antonio's run to the 2026 NBA Finals. It also sharpens expectations for a Spurs defense built around elite rim protection heading into the new season.

What to watch: San Antonio opens Oct. 20 against OKC. The next measure is whether another shot-blocking crown carries into another deep playoff push.
