What happened: The Chicago White Sox recalled left-handed pitcher Tyler Schweitzer from Class AAA Charlotte prior to Saturday's game against the Athletics. The move adds another arm to the roster as Chicago hosts Oakland at Rate Field.

Why it matters: The White Sox enter at 48-45 on a one-game winning streak after going 4-1 in their last five, while the Athletics arrive at 41-53 on a seven-game skid. Schweitzer gives Chicago fresh pitching depth as it looks to build on its recent form against a reeling Oakland club.

By the numbers: White Sox: 48-45, last 5 WLLLW, current streak W1, scoring 4.8 runs/game, allowing 4.5. Athletics: 41-53, last 5 LLLLL, current streak L7. Chicago won the teams' most recent meeting, 14-1, on July 10.

What to watch: Schweitzer's role out of the bullpen or rotation becomes clear as the series with the Athletics continues.
