What happened: Will Anderson leads the NFL with 7.5 sacks this season while Greg Rousseau holds sole possession of second place at 6.0, per PFF. T.J. Watt, Elijah Ponder, Dallas Turner, and Chase Young sit deadlocked behind them at 5.5 sacks apiece.

Why it matters: Ponder, a second-year defender out of Cal Poly, has already surpassed the 4 sacks he recorded across 15 games in 2025 (per ESPN, as of Sept. 29, 2026). Rousseau led the NFL sack race with 6.0 through Week 4 and now sits one sack away from matching his 16-game total from 2025, while Anderson has maintained his 7.5-sack mark since Week 5.

By the numbers: 2026 NFL sack leaders (per PFF): Will Anderson 7.5 (92.8 edge grade on Oct. 6), Greg Rousseau 6.0, T.J. Watt 5.5, Elijah Ponder 5.5, Dallas Turner 5.5, Chase Young 5.5. A 2.0-sack margin separates first place from the four-way tie for third.

What to watch: With 1.5 sacks separating Anderson from Rousseau and 0.5 sacks between second and third place, a multi-sack game on the Sunday regular-season slate would reshuffle the top of the leaderboard.
