What happened: New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided encouraging updates on the team's injured stars. Left-hander Max Fried is scheduled to throw 60 pitches in a Triple-A rehab start on Wednesday before a targeted return next week against the Chicago White Sox. Boone also disputed reports that Giancarlo Stanton's return from a calf strain is not close, stating the slugger is progressing well.

Why it matters: The positive injury news offers a boost to a New York club holding a 50-41 record ahead of the trade deadline. Reinforcements to the rotation and lineup could alter the team's approach as they navigate the American League playoff race. The impending return of Fried would solidify the starting staff during a crucial stretch.

What to watch: Aaron Judge will undergo further imaging based on his rib symptoms. Carlos Rodon is slated for a live batting practice session next week following recent treatments.
