What happened: Raheem Morris has San Francisco playing a more aggressive coverage style early in the 2026 regular season. The young defensive backs backed it up in a 32-29 win at Seattle on Sunday.

Why it matters: The secondary surge gives San Francisco margin while its linebacker rotation reshuffles with Dre Greenlaw suspended for Monday against the Commanders. Sustained play from young defensive backs would stabilize the defense for the stretch of NFC games ahead.

What to watch: San Francisco faces Washington on Monday night with Greenlaw out, putting the young secondary under prime-time scrutiny.
