What happened: Zach Allen leads all NFL interior defensive players this season with 4.5 sacks, per PFF. DeForest Buckner, Dexter Lawrence, Alim McNeill, and Mason Graham follow in a tie at 4.0 sacks apiece, with Jeffery Simmons also among the top interior pass rushers. The leaderboard update arrives on the same day San Francisco acquired DeForest Buckner from Indianapolis for a 2027 fourth-round pick while taking on the remaining $7.944 million on his contract.

Why it matters: San Francisco plugs an established four-sack interior disruptor directly into a defense that ranks 24th in NFL pressure rate this season. For 2-5 Indianapolis, moving Buckner alongside guard Quenton Nelson—dealt to Seattle for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick—marks a decisive deadline pivot toward future draft capital. In Denver, Allen's pass-rush production has helped propel the Broncos to a 5-2 mark, a three-game winning streak, and the No. 5 seed in the AFC.

What to watch: Allen is listed as questionable after suffering a hamstring injury during Sunday's 30-16 win over Arizona, making his status a critical watch for Denver this week. Buckner will now integrate into San Francisco's defensive rotation while Indianapolis continues fielding deadline inquiries on wide receiver Josh Downs.
