What happened: Williams echoed Walker Kessler's view that the Lakers' perimeter defense is being overlooked, saying the roster has enough wings to defend positions 1 through 4 without a drop-off in effort. His comments point to interchangeable lineups as an early theme in camp.

Why it matters: That matters for a Lakers group trying to raise its defensive floor with size and activity on the wing. It also tracks with the team's recent camp emphasis on wing depth heading into the 2026-27 season.

What to watch: Watch whether that defensive identity carries into preseason rotations and how often Williams is used in the Lakers' bigger wing groups.
