What happened: Christian McCaffrey did not practice on Aug. 11 due to tightness, one of more than a dozen 49ers dealing with injuries in camp. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is out for the season after PCL surgery, and George Kittle remains on the PUP list as he recovers from the torn Achilles he suffered in the NFC wild-card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Why it matters: McCaffrey has a track record of missing chunks of seasons, and a tightness scratch in August with the opener a month out is the kind of thing that should worry a team already down Pearsall and short on a fully healthy Kittle. Nick Bosa's knee soreness got a shrug from Kyle Shanahan as normal post-ACL business, but McCaffrey's workload management is a different conversation given how much this offense runs through him.
