What happened: Tory Dandy of Athletes First completed the contract. Samuel returns to San Francisco after one season with the Commanders.

Why it matters: The reunion follows recent calls for San Francisco to consider Samuel amid receiver turnover. The one-year structure limits the 49ers' commitment entering the 2026 season.

By the numbers: Samuel caught 72 passes for 727 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games for Washington in 2025. He added 75 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries.

What to watch: Samuel's training-camp role and usage will be the next indicators of how quickly he slots back into the offense.
