What happened: A 6-foot-6 pitcher from New Jersey has signed with a Major League Baseball club in the days after this year's draft, according to NJ.com. The deal includes a signing bonus reported at $3.8 million.

Why it matters: A bonus at that level typically reflects a club valuing a pitcher's projectable frame and velocity over immediate polish. The size of the deal places the signing among the larger draft-class bonuses reported so far this summer.

What to watch: Assignment to a minor league affiliate and the start of the pitcher's professional development are the next steps to watch.
