What happened: Thirty-one-year-old forward Aaron Gordon met Shai with a physical play reminiscent of former NBA enforcer Rick Mahorn during the nationally televised ESPN broadcast, per Law Murray.

Why it matters: Gordon stated on Sept. 28 that his group is the best in the league when fully available. Establishing an early physical presence at the rim sets the defensive tone to open the 2026-27 regular season.

What to watch: Action continues on ESPN as the opening week of the 2026-27 regular season unfolds.
