What happened: Davis has recorded two double-doubles through four games with the Washington Wizards despite shooting 44.0% from the field, weighed down by a 3-for-12 outing against the Toronto Raptors. In Sacramento, Zach LaVine is scoring 27.3 points per game on 52.2% shooting across 17.3 field-goal attempts per contest while logging 36 minutes a night with 3.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Meanwhile, New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III has seen his scoring dip to 15.3 points through three games despite shooting 48.6% overall and 41.2% from three-point range.

Why it matters: Durability and usage distribution shape the early outlook for all three scorers: Davis was limited to 56 or fewer games in five of the past six seasons, while LaVine appeared in 39 games last year and 25 in 2023-24 with the Chicago Bulls (1-3). For New Orleans, Murphy's usage rate has dropped to 18.1% behind healthy starters Zion Williamson (20.7 PPG) and Dejounte Murray (20.3 PPG), while Pelicans center Yves Missi remains out with a left knee contusion and bone bruise. Sacramento's offense leans heavily on LaVine's perimeter volume alongside healthy center Domantas Sabonis and rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr.

By the numbers: Murphy averaged at least 21.2 PPG over the previous two seasons with usage rates of 23.7% and 22.7%, while Davis is suiting up for his third team in three seasons. Elsewhere in the Eastern Conference, the rebuilding Milwaukee Bucks start Myles Turner and Kyle Kuzma in the frontcourt after topping the Indiana Pacers (2-2) 110-102 on Oct. 26, and Bam Adebayo's Miami Heat sit at 0-4 following a 113-109 loss on Oct. 26.

What to watch: Monitor whether Washington and Sacramento scale back the heavy early minutes loads for Davis and LaVine to preserve their availability over the schedule. In Milwaukee and New Orleans, any trade involving Turner or Kuzma or an absence for Williamson or Murray would immediately reshape frontcourt and wing usage.
