What happened: Anthony Smith suggested that Ilia Topuria was caught off guard by Justin Gaethje's ability to absorb punishment and maintain forward pressure during their title fight. Smith noted that Topuria’s reliance on early finishes may have led to a "level of underestimation" when the bout extended into the championship rounds.

Why it matters: Justin Gaethje captured the undisputed lightweight title at UFC Freedom 250 after a TKO via corner stoppage. The victory marks a significant shift in the 155-pound division, as Gaethje entered the historic White House event as a 6-to-1 underdog against the previously undefeated Topuria.

What to watch: Gaethje is expected to defend his new title against the winner of the upcoming lightweight eliminator, while Topuria faces a recovery period after his first professional loss.
