📻 "Ah this guy..." Antonelli locks up in the dirty air of Sainz as the Mercedes looks to lap the Williams 😳 #F1 #USGP Via @F1 on X

What happened: Running in first place at Circuit of the Americas, Kimi Antonelli radioed "Ah this guy..." after sliding in the turbulent wake of Carlos Sainz while trying to put the Williams a lap down. Starting from pole on medium tires, the Italian had reclaimed the lead four laps earlier with an inside pass on Charles Leclerc at Turn 12.

Why it matters: Surviving the close call in backmarker traffic protected a pivotal victory for Antonelli, who arrived in Texas with an opportunity to clinch the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship by outscoring teammate George Russell. Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton completed the podium in second and third, while Russell finished eighth.

By the numbers: US Grand Prix top 10 finishers: P1 Antonelli, P2 Leclerc, P3 Hamilton, P4 Lando Norris, P5 Max Verstappen, P6 Isack Hadjar, P7 Oscar Piastri, P8 Russell, P9 Liam Lawson, P10 Pierre Gasly. Qualifying top 5: P1 Antonelli, P2 Verstappen, P3 Hadjar, P4 Leclerc, P5 Hamilton.

What to watch: Final FIA championship points confirmation following the Austin classification will establish whether Antonelli's margin over Russell officially seals the drivers' title.
