What happened: Houston parted with catching instructor Tim Cossins, game-planning coach Tommy Kawamura, third-base coach Tony Perezchica, assistant hitting coach Anthony Iapoce and assistant pitching coach Ethan Katz. Bench coach Omar Lopez was removed from that role but was offered another position in the organization.

Why it matters: The scope of the departures leaves the incoming manager with a largely open staff to fill. Houston is making the change during the postseason while Championship Series play continues elsewhere.

What to watch: Attention turns to who Houston hires to lead the staff and whether Lopez accepts reassignment.
