What happened: The Houston Astros have scheduled a Thursday interview with Albert Pujols for the team's open managerial position, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale. Pujols, an 11-time All-Star who retired after the 2022 season, has expressed strong interest in managing at the major league level.

Why it matters: Houston's front office features familiar ties, as new general manager Randy Flores played alongside Pujols with the St. Louis Cardinals from 2004 to 2008. The Astros have also evaluated Brad Ausmus for the open managerial role as the organization looks to stabilize leadership entering the 2027 season.

What to watch: Houston is expected to conclude initial candidate interviews this week before narrowing the search to finalists.
