What happened: Albert Pujols and Brad Ausmus have emerged as candidates for the Houston Astros managerial opening, per Jon Morosi of MLB Network. Houston's managerial search is actively underway as the club evaluates external candidates to lead the dugout. Both figures bring extensive major-league experience to the vacant position.

Why it matters: Houston enters the offseason reshaping its leadership following an active autumn that included front-office restructuring. Ausmus previously managed the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels, while Pujols recently managed in the Dominican Winter League. The eventual hire will take over a perennial contender looking to retool its roster and coaching infrastructure.

What to watch: Houston will continue interviewing managerial candidates as the club finalizes its dugout hierarchy for 2027.
