What happened: Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield will wear a specialized glove developed with help from the Tampa Bay Rays training staff to protect his dislocated right thumb, per Ian Rapoport. Although listed as questionable on the injury report, head coach Todd Bowles said Friday that Mayfield is ready to play Sunday at Carolina following a three-game absence.

Why it matters: Protecting the throwing hand is essential as Tampa Bay attempts to recover from a 1-5 start that leaves the club 16th in the conference standings after last week's 26-19 defeat against Pittsburgh. Mayfield, who navigated an offseason contract impasse with the Buccaneers, rejoins an offense trying to stabilize ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

By the numbers: Tampa Bay holds a 1-5 record (seed 16, L1 streak) in the 2026 regular season following its 26-19 loss to the Steelers on Oct. 18. Across 17 games with the Buccaneers in the 2025 season, Mayfield completed 343 of 543 passes for 3,693 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, per ESPN.

What to watch: Mayfield is slated to start Sunday when the Buccaneers take on the Panthers in Carolina.
