What happened: According to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, the 0-4 Los Angeles Chargers could move Khalil Mack back to Chicago before the trade deadline. The 3-1 Bears currently have approximately $9 million in cap space, giving them room to absorb his remaining deal.

Why it matters: An acquisition would provide an immediate edge-rushing boost for Chicago amid a strong start to the season. The 35-year-old is in the final year of his contract, which carries an $8 million base salary for 2026. The draft compensation for a mid-season rental would be significantly lower than his initial move.

By the numbers: The defender has tallied three sacks in four games this season. He will be owed $5.77 million in remaining pay after this week.

What to watch: The Chargers are two games away from their bye week, which could clarify their willingness to deal. The NFL trade deadline arrives the Tuesday after Week 9.
