Last night, Brayan Bello made his first start for the Red Sox since July and he threw five shutout innings 🔒 What role Via @MLBNetwork on X

What happened: Bello allowed four hits and two walks. Boston won 5-2 for its fifth straight victory.

Why it matters: The Boston rotation gains another postseason option after Bello worked mainly in bulk relief during the second half. His sharp outing complicates the club's October pitching decisions.

By the numbers: In eight earlier starts this season, Bello went 1-6 with a 10.35 ERA across 35 2/3 innings. He had allowed two earned runs over 22 2/3 innings since July 12 before moving back into the rotation.

What to watch: Boston's next deployment will indicate whether Bello stays in the rotation or returns to bulk relief before the postseason.
