What happened: The rookie infielder hit seven total home runs across 20 swings during Monday's Derby, connecting on four dingers in his initial 10 cuts before slowing down. He is slated to bat seventh and play right field for the American League in the Midsummer Classic right behind teammate Cody Bellinger. Off the field, New York completed contract terms with top draft selection Dietz following his collegiate career at Arkansas.

Why it matters: Fellow Boston-area native Cam Schlittler also earned his first All-Star selection with New York, though the right-handed ace opted out of pitching in the showcase to prioritize midseason recovery. The recognition solidifies both young standouts as cornerstones for the organization as the July 30 trade deadline approaches with two weeks of games remaining. On the National League side, Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood captured weekly honors to mirror Rice's offensive surge going into the break.

What to watch: Dietz will report to the player development complex in Tampa, where scouting director Damon Oppenheimer noted it remains to be determined if the left-hander pitches in live games this season. Meanwhile, New York resumes regular-season play following tonight's All-Star exhibition with two weeks of action before the July 30 trade deadline.
