What happened: Bo Nix returned to preseason action Friday after two offseason ankle procedures. His first game work came after he sat out the opener.

Why it matters: Zone-heavy defenses could force Nix to sustain longer drives and make tighter reads. His response will help determine the passing attack’s ceiling when the regular season begins.

By the numbers: Nix completed 6 of 9 passes for 76 yards and one touchdown across two series Friday.

What to watch: Nix is scheduled for more preseason work Friday, with his performance against zone looks the key checkpoint.
