What happened: Boone said Stanton has been hitting and added, “we’ll see.” A left calf strain had put Stanton’s season in jeopardy.

Why it matters: A return would restore a veteran hitter to the Yankees’ lineup. The latest update keeps that possibility open.

By the numbers: San Diego won the finale 4-3, turning a 1-1 series tie into a 2-1 series win.

What to watch: The next marker is whether Stanton advances beyond hitting work.
