What happened: Milwaukee moved its ace in a January trade. He claimed ALCS MVP to lead his new club into the Fall Classic against his former team.

Why it matters: Milwaukee ended a 44-year pennant wait dating to 1982. Either finalist will claim a first championship, giving the pennant-winning Brewers a roster-construction test against their former ace.

By the numbers: 44-year NL pennant gap dates to 1982; ace moved in January, then won ALCS MVP.

What to watch: The opener in Milwaukee sets the rotation order against the former ace.
