What happened: Griner scored Connecticut's first five points Thursday night. The matchup was part of WNBA Rivals Week.

Why it matters: Earlier this season, Griner became the WNBA's career blocks leader. Connecticut entered the night 7-18, leaving little margin in the playoff race.

By the numbers: Griner entered Thursday averaging 13.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks through 15 games. She had not made a 3-pointer this season.

What to watch: Her remaining minutes will show whether the perimeter look becomes a recurring part of Connecticut's offense.
