What happened: Jac Caglianone is tearing through June, carrying a 1.144 OPS for the month as Kansas City leans on his bat. The young slugger has been keeping his approach simple in the box, letting his raw strength do the heavy lifting. His production has been a rare bright spot for an offense that has scuffled for stretches this season.

Why it matters: Caglianone's surge matters for a Royals club sitting at 33-46 and looking for foundational pieces to build around. A breakout from a power-hitting prospect gives Kansas City a reason for optimism even as the standings stay grim, and it sharpens the franchise's calculus heading toward the trade deadline. The same Caglianone who has sparked the Royals' offense this month is increasingly the centerpiece of their lineup.

What to watch: Watch whether Caglianone can sustain the pace through the back half of June and how it shapes Kansas City's deadline posture. His bat will be central to the Royals' offense in the series against Tampa Bay.
