Wire Report IntelligenceUpdated Aug 271 min read

What happened: Petersen will attend 2026 training camp and preseason while pursuing a contract for 2026-27. The 31-year-old goaltender spent last season in the AHL.

Why it matters: The audition gives Washington another veteran depth option in net. Petersen has played exclusively in the minors for the past two seasons.

By the numbers: Petersen went 13-16-2 with a 2.73 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage in 33 AHL appearances last season. He owns a .903 save percentage and 2.96 goals-against average across 106 NHL games.

What to watch: Petersen's preseason workload and Washington's final camp cuts will determine whether the tryout leads to a contract.
