What happened: Cam Schlittler won the 2026 Players Choice Award for American League Outstanding Pitcher on Wednesday. The Major League Baseball Players Association announced the peer-voted selection as part of its annual awards program, which has recognized top on-field performers since 1992.

Why it matters: The recognition caps a 2026 breakout campaign in which Schlittler earned an MLB All-Star selection in July before emerging as the league's top pitcher in player balloting. Players Choice honors carry distinct weight across the league because active major leaguers vote directly on the winners rather than media members or fans.

What to watch: Attention now shifts to the Baseball Writers' Association of America postseason awards schedule following the completion of the 2026 World Series.
