What happened: Montreal Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeault continues to draw trade chatter during the regular season, per Arpon Basu of The Athletic. Montembeault has yet to appear in a game this season while sidelined with an injury.

Why it matters: With Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler positioned to handle the crease in Montreal, moving Montembeault on an expiring contract would clear cap space and return an asset from a club seeking goaltending help.

What to watch: Monitor Montembeault's recovery from injury and whether Montreal engages trade partners as the season progresses.
