INF Ramón Urías has been activated from the 60-day IL. OF Everson Pereira has been placed on the 10-day IL (left hand c Via @Cardinals on X

What happened: Urías had been sidelined by elbow epicondylitis and began a rehabilitation assignment Aug. 4. Pereira was hit on the left hand by a pitch Aug. 21 and had negative X-rays.

Why it matters: Urías restores an infield option during the playoff chase. Pereira's absence thins the outfield less than three weeks after St. Louis claimed him off waivers.

By the numbers: Urías had been on the injured list since May 5 and moved to the 60-day IL June 12. Pereira was activated Aug. 8 before returning to the IL 15 days later, retroactive to Aug. 22.

What to watch: Urías' initial role and availability bear watching. Pereira becomes eligible to return after the 10-day minimum.
