What happened: The St. Louis Cardinals selected right-hander Dawson Montesa with the 72nd overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. The pick came on the draft's second day, following the club's earlier selection of OF Trevor Condon at No. 13 and RHP Tegan Kuhns 40 picks earlier at No. 32.

Why it matters: The pick adds another arm to a Cardinals farm system already restocked with Condon and Kuhns this cycle. St. Louis has now used three of its first four picks on pitching and outfield talent as the front office builds organizational depth.

By the numbers: St. 13), RHP Tegan Kuhns (No. 32), RHP Dawson Montesa (No. 72), OF Caden Ferraro (No. 86), SS Dee Kennedy (No. 114).

What to watch: The Cardinals continue making selections as the draft proceeds through its remaining rounds.
