What happened: ESPN reported Cleveland is elevating Brandon Weems to general manager under president Koby Altman. Weems has spent the last decade in the organization, rising through scouting and personnel roles before becoming assistant GM in 2022.

Why it matters: The move locks in an internal successor after Mike Gansey left to run Philadelphia's basketball operations. It also keeps a key front-office role with an executive who already knows Cleveland's roster, scouting pipeline and decision-making structure heading into the 2026-27 offseason.

What to watch: Cleveland's next personnel moves will show how much day-to-day authority shifts to Weems under Altman. Any further front-office reshuffling would clarify how the Cavaliers divide Gansey's former responsibilities.
