What happened: Marquez Valdes-Scantling is signing with the Los Angeles Chargers and is set to join the practice squad. The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver worked out for Los Angeles earlier in the day before the move surfaced.

Why it matters: Because the deal is for the practice squad, the Chargers gain a veteran call-up option without using an immediate active-roster spot. The move also gives Valdes-Scantling another path back into game-day snaps after his stint in Pittsburgh last season.

What to watch: The next step is whether the Chargers elevate him for game-day depth in the coming weeks. Any follow-up roster move will show how quickly they expect him to factor in.
