What happened: The Los Angeles Chargers ruled out right tackle Joe Alt and safety Derwin James for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. Alt is sidelined with a neck injury, while James is dealing with a hamstring issue. Left tackle Rashawn Slater is also headed to injured reserve following ankle surgery.

Why it matters: The cluster of injuries compounds a disastrous 0-4 start for Los Angeles, leaving Justin Herbert without his primary blindside protectors. The absence of Alt, the fifth overall pick in the 2024 draft, and Slater strips the offense of its foundational line pieces as they search for their first win of the season.

What to watch: DJ Uiagalelei will serve as the primary backup to Herbert against Denver, with Trey Lance listed as doubtful due to a groin injury.
