What happened: Chelsea have officially named Glenn van der Kraan as the club's new academy director. The Dutchman earns the promotion after serving as technical director since his arrival in 2024. He takes charge of the entire developmental pipeline following two years of aligning coaching methods across age groups.

Why it matters: The move secures continuity for a youth system that has experienced tremendous recent success. Keeping the developmental structure stable is a priority as Chelsea transition to a new era under manager Xabi Alonso. The Spanish tactician has a history of integrating young talent, making a streamlined academy-to-senior pathway essential.

What to watch: Van der Kraan will focus on preparing the next generation of youth players to compete for first-team minutes under Alonso.
