What happened: Veach told CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson during Sunday's game in Denver that Kansas City will make calls over the next week to see which wide receivers are available. Colts receiver Josh Downs and Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr. have been mentioned as possible targets.

Why it matters: Veach cited Tyquan Thornton being out for the season, and the Chiefs placed him on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Kansas City (5-2) has lost two straight, falling 28-24 to the Broncos after leading in the fourth quarter.

What to watch: The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 10, leaving about a week for Veach to make calls on receivers.
