What happened: Holmes threw 2 1/3 innings in his first rehab start after more than two months without competitive game action. Multiple clubs sent scouts to evaluate him.

Why it matters: The 33-year-old can opt out of his final year and $12 million after this season. That contract structure positions him as a potential rental for rotation-needy contenders.

What to watch: Watch his workload and whether a deal materializes before the Aug. 3 deadline at 6 p.m. ET.
