Reggie Cannon headed home the only goal as the Colorado Rapids defeated Real Salt Lake 1-0 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, securing the Rocky Mountain Cup for a third consecutive season. Cannon converted Youssef Maziz’s corner in the 58th minute, while Adam Beaudry marked his 2026 debut by helping Colorado record another home clean sheet.

What happened

Colorado controlled the attacking opportunities before breaking through early in the second half. Maziz delivered the corner, and Cannon supplied the decisive header to put the Rapids ahead in the 58th minute.

Real Salt Lake did not register an attempt on target, leaving the visitors without a route back into the match. Colorado protected its one-goal advantage through the finish and completed its fifth consecutive clean sheet at home.

Why it matters

The victory ensured the Rocky Mountain Cup remains in Colorado for a third straight season. It is the first time in club history that the Rapids have retained the rivalry trophy across three consecutive campaigns.

The three points also moved Colorado to seventh place in the Western Conference with 31 points. For Real Salt Lake, the defeat extended an MLS winless run that has now reached eight games.

RSL’s struggles away from home continued as well. The club’s road drought stands at nine games after it was unable to challenge Beaudry with a shot on target in Colorado.

By the numbers

The Rapids held a decisive advantage across the major attacking categories. Colorado outshot Real Salt Lake 14-4, placed four attempts on target to RSL’s zero and produced seven corners while allowing only one.

Those margins reflected the direction of the match and ultimately generated the decisive sequence. One of Colorado’s seven corner kicks became Maziz’s assist and Cannon’s game-winning header.

What to watch next

Colorado returns to the road on Sept. 5 for a visit to Columbus Crew. The Rapids will arrive with the Rocky Mountain Cup secured, a five-match home clean-sheet streak and an improved position in the Western Conference table.

Real Salt Lake hosts LAFC on the same day as it attempts to end its eight-game MLS winless stretch. RSL will be without Morgan Guilavogui, who is suspended for caution accumulation.
