What happened: Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Daniels will not play Sunday after practicing on a limited basis this week. Quinn added that Daniels is scheduled for a full week of practice next week, while Mariota takes the start.

Why it matters: The move keeps Washington with Mariota while Daniels works back from a dislocated left elbow. Quinn's practice timeline points to a short-term absence, but Washington still has to navigate another game without its top quarterback.

What to watch: Washington's next practice report will show whether Daniels makes the jump from limited work to full participation. Sunday's start gives Mariota another shot to steady the offense until Daniels is cleared to return.
