What happened: Zlatko Dalić is stepping down as manager of the Croatia national team after nearly nine years. The federation attempted to extend his expiring contract, but the sides will part ways following a round of 32 World Cup exit against Portugal.

Why it matters: Dalić guided the nation to its most successful era in international football. He led the squad to the 2018 World Cup final, a third-place finish in 2022, and the UEFA Nations League final in 2023.

What to watch: The Croatian football federation will begin the search for a new head coach ahead of upcoming qualifiers.
