A perfect relay throw and Dalton Rushing makes the play at the plate! #MLBNShowcase | @goodyear | @Dodgers https://t.co Via @MLBNetwork on X

What happened: Dalton Rushing threw out a runner at the plate on a relay throw during MLB Network's Showcase broadcast of the Dodgers-Yankees game. The defensive sequence required a clean relay to nail the runner before he could score. Rushing has been the same catcher who has drawn starts behind the plate for Shohei Ohtani this season.

Why it matters: The Dodgers enter the game 58-33 but have dropped three straight, while the Yankees sit 48-39 on a four-game win streak. A clean defensive play at the plate carries added weight for a Los Angeles club trying to snap its skid against a hot Yankees team. The matchup is part of the clubs' current interleague series.

By the numbers: Dodgers: 58-33 this season, scoring 5.3 runs per game, allowing 3.7, last five L-L-L-W-L. Yankees: 48-39, scoring 4.8, allowing 3.9, last five W-W-W-W-L.

What to watch: First pitch had yet to be thrown as of the latest update, with the game listed 0-0 and Los Angeles a favorite.
