What happened: Gangurrus 3x3 coach Damon Lowery has publicly challenged the UC Capitals to utilize Amy Atwell more dynamically during the upcoming WNBL27 season. The call for an expanded role comes after Atwell's dominant performance at the 2026 FIBA 3x3 World Cup, where she led the tournament in scoring and anchored Australia's run to a silver medal.

Why it matters: Atwell is the marquee signing for the UC Capitals as they retool for the 2026-27 season. Lowery’s challenge emphasizes Atwell as a potential two-way star and leader rather than just a perimeter specialist, signaling a tactical shift that could elevate Canberra back into championship contention.

What to watch: Expectations are high for Atwell's Canberra debut as training camps approach, with focus shifting to how Head Coach Paul Goriss integrates her into the Capitals' new-look defensive schemes.
