What happened: "I said I didn't want it to be a distraction," Dan Campbell told reporters Friday before stepping away from the podium to conclude his availability. The exchange followed public frustration from tight end Sam LaPorta over stalled contract negotiations.

Why it matters: The friction marks a sharp shift from Oct. 7, when Campbell dismissed the contract stall following LaPorta's best game. Durability concerns have complicated the extension timeline after LaPorta dealt with a back injury cleared in July and an August hip flare-up that left his Week 1 status uncertain.

What to watch: Extension talks remain unresolved with the team sitting at 4-3 and the NFL trade deadline approaching.
